I think every motorist was faced with a situation when the door of his iron horse did not close tightly, then he had to open it again and close it with a stronger effort. This is very inconvenient when, after setting it to the alarm, you notice this, you have to remove the alarm again, close the doors and put it back on the alarm.

What is a car door closer

This often occurs in passenger cars when the rear doors are closed or in bulky SUVs. In order to get rid of such an unpleasant thing, we have developed car door closers for tightly closing doors.

Thanks to the installation of such a device, you do not have to open and close the car doors again. Such closers have long been installed on premium cars and have earned respect among many motorists. But still, not all cars are equipped with closers in terms of their cost and physical capability.

Mentioning premium cars, such a system can often be found in BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and others.

But, even deciding to install such a device, not every car will have the physical capability, since the doors are different for all models. Therefore, there are universal door closers. One of such companies providing universal door closers is SLAMSTOP.

The principle of the door closer

The principle of operation of the door closer is very simple, it brings an unclosed door to a closed state. The closer is triggered after the car door is closed on the first latch of a conventional car standard lock. Thanks to the door position sensor, the system recognizes whether the lock is completely closed or not.

As soon as the car door latches onto the first latch of the standard lock, the closer sensor and its electric drive are triggered, after which the mechanism closes the car door to the desired state.

It is worth noting that the door closer is not an additional lock, since it cannot fix the door or keep it in a permanent closed position, it only reaches for an unclosed door. It should be remembered that the standard mechanism must be fully functional and there should be no breakdowns or malfunctions in the closure. Otherwise, the system simply will not work correctly.

How door closers are installed

First of all, let's consider what the whole mechanism consists of. The first thing that catches your eye is the electronic drive, which helps in reaching the door. Further, the actuator, which is mounted on the door. Electronic control unit, door position sensor, drive cable and roller lock.

The installation of the entire system begins with the removal of the door trim. If the car has electric mirrors or power windows, then you should carefully write down or remember the location of the contacts so that you do not have to remove them again later. In the worst case, you can overfire the control system.

After removing the trim, we install the electronic drive in the free space, so that the pulling link is directed towards the door lock. This will reduce the force of resistance when the closer is triggered. It is necessary to screw the electronic drive tightly, since it is he who will take on all the force when finishing the car door. The cable, which will transmit the force, is placed from the working mechanism of the standard lock to the electronic drive, so that it does not interfere with other mechanisms and, preferably, does not intersect with them.

A sensor is placed on the door above the lock, which, when combined with a magnet (also placed on the car rack opposite the sensor), is triggered and gives a signal to start the entire closer mechanism. It is worth remembering that the magnet and the sensor must be installed exactly one opposite to one. To do this, you need to drill two holes in the body and the door of the car.

All electronics and the sensor are connected to the control unit, which monitors the closer operation and transmits all signals to the mechanisms. The control unit is connected from a common 12V power system. The door is fully triggered from 1 to 2.5 seconds. The control unit should also be carefully fixed on the door body, since at the most inopportune moment it will dangle and create an unpleasant sound. After that, you will have to remove the skin again.

After installing all the mechanisms, you should check their performance by slightly closing the door, and in front of your eyes it should automatically close completely by itself. Next, we install the door trim back. Thus, it is worth going around each door on which the closer will be installed.

Door closer manufacturers

In addition to standard closers, which are installed in dealerships and not for little money, there are also universal closers from well-known manufacturers, the advantage of such closers is their low cost and the ability to independently install.

The most famous company SLAMSTOP, the cost of a set for one door starts from $ 150, excluding the cost of installation.

Less well-known firms consider Dorma, Ryobi, Abloy, the cost of one set of such a company is from $ 110, but they are all based on SlamStop, but according to users, they are much worse than the original car door closer.

Price for door closers

The versatility lies in the fact that it can be installed on almost any brand and model, the cost of installation with equipment is from 13,500 rubles per door, depending on the quality and the manufacturer's firm. In comparison with dealerships of brands BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, installation of such an add-on can cost from 35,000 rubles to 100,000 rubles per door.
