For the first time, a new, hybrid prototype of the legendary Jeep Wrangler, but with a hybrid installation, was presented at an electronics show in Las Vegas. Now, almost 8 months later, the production version of the SUV was presented. The new hybrid SUV will be next to the previously unveiled Jeep Compass and Renegade hybrids, which hit the European auto market this summer, the company said.
In the manufacturer's list, the novelty is listed as the Wrangler 4xe. The new hybrid will be able to overcome off-road without a single sound, without disturbing the silence of nature, since previously all the load went to the internal combustion engine. The hybrid installation for Jeep Wrangler was not quite as complicated as previously thought. It consists of a 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, a pair of electric motors and a 17 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the second row of seats.
Another plus of the new hybrid is that it supports 400-volt mains charging. If we talk about power, then in total, the Jeep Wrangler hybrid installation will be able to produce 380 horses and 637 Nm of torque. As an example, a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel unit from the EcoDiesel family can only deliver 599 Nm of torque.
The operation of the Jeep Wrangler hybrid installation is not difficult. At the moment of start, the electric motor is triggered, then the car moves on electric traction. After passing the speed threshold (until the manufacturer specifies), an internal combustion engine is connected to the electric motors in a pair. According to representatives of the company, only on electric traction, the Jeep Wrangler Hybrid SUV will be able to travel up to 40 kilometers, then completely switches to an internal combustion engine.
Thanks to the presence of the eSave mode, the battery charge is constantly replenished in order to use electricity in the future to start the car from a place. Also on the list is an energy recovery system (Max Regen), in order to accumulate maximum energy for movement only on electric traction. According to preliminary data, three complete sets of Jeep Wrangler Hybrid will enter the automotive market: 4xe, Rubicon 4xe and Sahara 4xe.

In terms of differences from the standard version, the Jeep Wrangler Hybrid is distinguished by its Electric Blue body color, special nameplates and an additional hatch for recharging the battery, which is located in front of the driver's door. So far, the manufacturer has not announced the cost of the Jeep Wrangler Hybrid SUV. It is reliably known that the start of sales of new items in Europe, the USA and China is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
