Chinese cars are increasingly starting to enter the Russian automotive market. New cars from Geely, FAW or Chery have become commonplace. One of the latest innovations in the Chinese automotive industry is Haval. Crossovers of this brand began to gain popularity, high-quality assembly, rich functionality and reasonable price.

Nevertheless, progress does not stand still and the Great Wall company decided to distinguish itself in the same way in the Russian market. The manufacturer decided to launch a new Wey brand. The first model of the brand was the VV5 crossover, more reminiscent of European models. The second model is considered the VV7, as well as a freshly introduced version of the Wey VV7 GT, which will become a competitor for the BMW X4. Like the first model of the brand, the new Chinese crossover is offered with only one gasoline engine and a 7-speed robotic gearbox.

The new VV7 differs from the first model VV5 in front and rear optics, interior design, as well as individual body elements. Changes to the bodywork have influenced the dynamic characteristics and of course the fuel consumption. Let's take a closer look at the new Wey VV7 2019, its characteristics, parameters and equipment.

It is worth noting that in the cabin, the new VV7 crossover received the most modern technologies, a large display of the multimedia system, a digital instrument panel, as well as leather interior trim. With all this, the manufacturer managed to maintain a minimum cost in order to become a competitor for European counterparts.

Exterior Wey VV7 2019

Often, the sore of Chinese cars is the proportion of body parts or the ratio of body and wheel sizes. Here, the designers took this moment into account and adjusted the elements as accurately as possible, thereby gaining in design. For the first time, the new crossover Wey VV7, aka Wey W01, was presented in 2017. A year later, sales started in the Middle Kingdom, and only now the crossover is trying to enter the Russian market. If for many motorists of the Russian Federation Chinese cars are of poor quality and frequent breakdowns, then here the opposite is true.

The appearance of the new Wey VV7 is really modified to meet European standards. The front of the crossover is slightly elongated, thus gaining a sporty character. Compared to the VV5 model, the 7th version received a tapered LED optics with a black background, an open grille with a mesh insert and a massive front bumper.

The front bumper of the crossover itself is conventionally divided into three parts, although outwardly it received a solid insert across the entire width. The center is reserved for an additional radiator grill, and various sensors for active safety systems are also located here. The side part was taken under the vertical LED fog lights and additional mesh inserts. If in the VV5 model such inserts played the role of aerodynamic guides, then in the VV7 they are more decorative than they perform a specific function.

The front end of the Wey VV7 crossover is complemented by a stylish hood, which gives the novelty, paired with optics, a more evil character. The designers have circled the hood edge with a line, on the one hand it is a non-standard solution, on the other hand it gives a special style. The front glass of the new crossover, as in the first model of the brand, is slightly tilted back. This move not only improved the design, but also led to an improvement in dynamic performance.

From the side, the VV7 crossover resembles the first model of the brand in many ways. The sloping rear roof section, sporty body lines and consistent proportions. It is very unusual that there are a minimum of chrome-plated parts available, they were simply replaced with black plastic ones or even painted to match the body color. There are also disadvantages that have not been removed from the previous model - the door handles are set at different heights. The front door handles are not bad looking and are designed for the average driver. As for the rear door handles, for some reason they were lifted up, moreover, with a slight slope horizontally.

From the additional side lines of the Wey VV7, it is possible to note the wavy side and small stamping at the bottom of the doors. To emphasize the design and attitude of the car to the class of crossovers, the very bottom was decorated with black plastic trims, which also play the role of protection. Following the general side view, the designers did not change the rear-view mirrors, still placing them on the door panel. The standard set of mirror functions includes heating, electric adjustment and automatic folding. As for the body color of the Wey VV7, it all depends on the country of delivery. For the Celestial Empire, they will offer bright color options, but for Russia, darker and more classic ones:

  • Red;
  • blue;
  • silver;
  • grey.


It is possible that in the Russian Federation, bright options can also be given. For example, bright green, yellow, blue and others in this direction. The alloy wheels of the crossover set a point in the design of the side section. Regardless of the selected configuration, the new Wey VV7 is based on 20 ″ wheels with 235/55 or 255/50 tires. This suggests that the wheel arches will cope well with larger rims, although it is worth remembering the proportion of the tires. The sports equipment of the crossover will receive 21 ″ tires with 255/45 tires.

From behind, the new Wey VV7 looks no less attractive. Designers do not just tilt the roof, giving the car an aggressive character. The trunk lid received a slight bend, which also emphasizes the design of the novelty quite well. The top is decorated with a sports spoiler with vertical LED turn signal. The end part of the trunk lid is made in the style of minimalism. The designers have added wide LED feet with a black background, a full-width chrome insert and branded brand lettering in the center of the trunk lid. A massive bumper complements the design of the rear of the Wey VV7. The designers took the side part of the bumper under the vertical foglights. The central part was highlighted with a massive plastic diffuser, painted in gloss black. There is also a pair of real exhaust tips, as well as an additional vertical stop follower.

Finally, consider the roof of the new Wey VV7. A huge plus is that the designers initially thought out all the details, and the manufacturer's goal to maintain an affordable price did not affect the filling of the complete sets. Starting with the base crossover, an electric sunroof has been installed on the roof. The standard equipment of the new items includes side rails and an antenna in the form of a shark fin. As an option for the top version in the Middle Kingdom, they propose to install a panoramic roof with a sliding front part.

As a conclusion about the appearance of the Wey VV7 - the design is not new, rather it is a modified version of the first model. The designers refreshed the front and rear of the crossover, while there are practically no changes on the side, except for the color of individual parts.

Interior Wey VV7 2019

Following the appearance of the Wey VV7, the designers have modernized and slightly modified the interior. If we compare Wei VV7 and VV5, then there are no differences, and at first glance it will seem that you are in the top-end configuration of the 5th model. This can be explained simply, the design of the 5th model was taken as a basis, and the outdated parts and systems were simply replaced with new ones. Highlights include a new multimedia display, digital dashboard and two-tone interior paint.

The front panel, or rather the central part of the crossover console, looks poor, despite the status of the novelty. The maximum that can be found on the console is a 9 ″ touchscreen display of the multimedia system, as well as three round air ducts. The operating systems Apple CarPlay and Android Auto served as the basis for multimedia, although this combination is not considered standard for Chinese cars.

The central tunnel of the crossover turned out to be much more diverse. At the very beginning, a climate control panel is installed, deployed towards the driver. There is also a washer for controlling all-wheel drive and a compartment for recharging gadgets. They offer a choice of a USB port or a 12V outlet.

Moving further along the tunnel, there is a gear selector, an electromechanical handbrake, as well as buttons for heating the front seats and controlling security systems. In addition to comfort, another gang of multimedia system control, navigation and quick access to mobile phone functions has been added. The central tunnel Wey VV7 ends with a pair of cup holders hidden behind a "curtain" and a small armrest with a compartment inside. The top configuration will have the ability to cool the compartment of the armrest, as well as additional USB ports for recharging.

Next on the inspection is the Wey VV7 salon itself. Despite the aggressive and sporty appearance, the interior was more elegant and restrained. The front seats received a little lateral support, the back is not particularly high, and the head restraints got the ability to tilt and reach. Adjustment of the front seats is only electric, 8 directions are available for the driver's seat (or 12 in the top version), for the passenger 6 and 8, respectively.

The second row of Wey VV7 seats looks simple, although this is the part of the cabin where the manufacturer has managed to keep the design and save money. There is plenty of room to accommodate three passengers of average build. The folding ratio is also standard 60/40. On a pleasant note, it is worth noting the possibility of adjusting the second-row seats in terms of reach and backrest tilt, while the adjustment is only manual.

Last but not least, the interior trim of the Wey VV7, unlike the VV5, the base model of the novelty received leather trim. The top options will receive Nappa leather upholstery, as well as the ability to add Alcantara inserts. Regarding the interior colors, only options are available for the Chinese market, although it is highly likely that for Russia the manufacturer will retain the range of options:

  5. White.


Also, the buyer's choice is offered with decorative inserts made of plastic for carbon, wood or polished aluminum. The last detail of the Wei VV7 interior is the driver's seat, in comparison with the VV5 there are differences and very good ones. Starting from the basic configuration, the crossover received a digital instrument panel based on a 12.3 ″ display. A small disadvantage is that only the central part can be customized by the driver, the rest, side parts will remain unchanged. On the central part, you can display not only certain indicators of the car, but also the image from the rear view camera.


Digital tidy and steering wheel

The steering wheel of the new Wei VV7 also received improvements. In particular, the lower part has received a flattened shape, and the side knitting needles are designed for a comfortable fit in the hands. Functional buttons for controlling crossover systems are also located here. At the request of the driver, the steering wheel can be adjusted in height and depth, and this is not a small plus when comparing the price and filling of the car. It cannot be said that the manufacturer significantly saved on interior design, however, in terms of the comfort of the interior, Wei VV7 is in no way inferior to European counterparts.

There are also those moments where the Chinese Wey VV7 crossover loses to European counterparts. The manufacturer still did not provide a variety in the direction of technical specifications. The buyer was offered a choice of only one turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection. In tandem, only a 7-speed dual-clutch robotized transmission goes to the engine.

I would like to say in advance that with a high probability the all-wheel drive version of Wei VV7 may not reach Russia, although in the Celestial Empire the top-end equipment is available with all-wheel drive. The 7th engine migrated from the 5th model.

If we compare the VV7 and VV5, then the 7th model has become heavier, and also increased in size. The suspension of the Wey VV7 crossover is completely independent. In front, there are classic MacPherson struts with an anti-roll bar, in the back there is a multi-link suspension. Despite the relatively low cost of the crossover, the manufacturer did not save on the braking system. Ventilated disc brakes are installed both in front and in the rear, and, moreover, starting from the basic configuration, the crossover has got an electromechanical handbrake.

The basis for the Wey VV7 was 20 ″ alloy wheels with 235/55 or 255/50 tires, the sports equipment of this model received 21 ″ wheels with 245/50 tires. The manufacturer has not moved away from the modern trend regarding the spare wheel, the kit includes the so-called "dokatka" instead of a full-fledged wheel. Having considered the characteristics of the new item, we can say that there is a lack of a more powerful engine, as well as a variety of transmissions. It remains to be hoped that an all-wheel drive version will still arrive in the Russian Federation, as a variety of units should not be expected.

Wey VV7 safety and comfort

The manufacturer did not save on safety and comfort systems Wei VV7. The buyer is offered a choice of passive, active systems, as well as auxiliary ones for the driver. It is worth noting that many of these systems are included in the basic set of the crossover. The list includes:

From the list it is clear that the new crossover will surprise you with comfort, and the security systems will help the driver understand the situation on the road. And at the most unpredictable moment to avoid collision.

Price and configuration Wey VV7

Deliveries of the new Wey VV7 crossover to Russia will begin no earlier than November 2019, although it is not a fact that they can be postponed to early 2020. In the Celestial Empire, the new VV7 is offered in 4 trim levels. It is likely that the same configurations, but with some minor modifications, will arrive in the Russian Federation, respectively, and the pricing policy will be approximately the same.

Today there is a possibility that the all-wheel drive version may not arrive in Russia. However, this does not spoil the overall portrait of the new Chinese Wey VV7 crossover.In terms of design, the manufacturer did not economize, creating a new European image, which is now popular in the Middle Kingdom.
