In Detroit, the presentation of the new hybrid diesel-electric crossover from Volkswagen took place. Description, brief technical characteristics, expected start date of production and price of the jeep.

A shelf of hybrids has arrived: as part of the Detroit Auto Show, the official presentation of the concept car from Volkswagen Cross Blue took place. Moreover, the place of the show was chosen very well: overseas diesel hybrids, especially of rather large sizes, are especially favored by customers, and it was created for this market.

An alternative crossover is built on a proprietary transverse modular platform. With six seats arranged in three rows, the hybrid is 190 millimeters longer than the current Touareg, although it is technically and visually more similar to the next - the new younger predecessor "Tiguan". The main dimensions of Cross Blue are: length - 4987 mm, width - 2015 mm and height - 1733 mm. The car interior is very spacious. The salon is sheathed with beautiful and high quality leather. Other trim materials are also of high quality, 285/45 tires on 21-inch alloy wheels, coupled with widened wheel arches, can provide the SUV with decent off-road qualities and stability on the highway and off-road.

The concept model is powered by a new four-cylinder transverse diesel engine. This 190-horsepower urea-injected emission control unit drives the wheels of the SUV's front axle. It is helped by an electric motor with a capacity of 54 hp. and delivering 180 Nm of torque, also included in the front wheel drive.

The task of rotating the rear wheels is entrusted to another, more powerful 150-horsepower electric motor, capable of producing 279 Nm of torque. As a result, the hybrid power plant of the crossover produces a staggering 358 horsepower and 700 Newton-meters of torque!

The transmission includes a DSG automatic transmission with two clutches. It is not surprising, therefore, that such a unit manages to accelerate a rather impressive SUV to 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds. An inflatable TDI and plug-in charging can allow the VW Cross Blue to reduce fuel consumption by up to two liters. And moving exclusively at the expense of an electric current source, the car will be able to travel about 23 kilometers.

The estimated start of production of the Volkswagen Cross Blue in 2015 in Chattanooga, Tennessee (a city in the southeastern United States). It should be noted that in mass production, quite familiar gasoline and diesel units will be used as a power plant, while hybrids will remain available. The approximate price of the petrol version of the Volkswagen Cross Blue is about $ 30,000. With an electric motor, the price will be significantly higher!
